MIRPUR MATHELO: Sindh Minister for Anti-Corruption, Agriculture, Sports and Youth Affairs Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar inaugurated two newly constructed general wards and a storeroom at Sheikh Hamdan Hospital in Khanpur Mahar on Wednesday.
The new facilities were built with the support of Mari Gas Company to enhance healthcare services for residents of the area.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ghotki Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Ahmed Kunrani, officials from various government departments, and other distinguished guests.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar said the addition of the new facilities marked an important step toward improving healthcare services in the region. He expressed confidence that the modern general wards and supporting infrastructure would significantly improve the hospital’s performance and provide patients with better medical treatment and care.
The minister also spoke about the challenges posed by climate change, saying that the province was facing both severe water shortages and flood-related risks. He noted that these changing environmental conditions were creating serious difficulties for the agricultural sector.
Referring to his own farming experience, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar said he owns agricultural land in the Sardar Garh area of Khanpur Mahar, where farmers are also struggling with an acute shortage of irrigation water.
Responding to a question regarding the ongoing protests related to the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), the provincial minister said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership would make whatever decision it considered appropriate and in the public interest.
He further stated that the PPP had achieved significant political success in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, adding that the party was serving people not only in Sindh but across the country and continued to receive public support.
Commenting on the administrative affairs of Khanpur Mahar Taluka Hospital, the minister said the hospital would be entrusted to an institution capable of managing it efficiently and delivering quality healthcare services.
He added that if the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) had demonstrated its ability to successfully manage healthcare institutions, then handing over the administration of the hospital to PPHI could also be considered.
The inauguration of the new wards is expected to increase the hospital’s capacity and improve access to healthcare for residents of Khanpur Mahar and surrounding areas. Government officials expressed hope that the upgraded facilities would help meet the growing healthcare needs of the local population while strengthening the district’s public health infrastructure.
