London: Global crude oil prices declined on international markets despite escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, as oil shipments from the Middle East continued without major disruption.
According to Reuters, the price of Brent crude fell by $1.29 to $89.45 per barrel.
Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped by 56 cents, or 0.66%, to $83.90 per barrel.
Market analysts said the decline came even as geopolitical tensions between Washington and Tehran intensified, because oil tanker traffic through key regional shipping routes remained uninterrupted. The continued flow of crude exports eased immediate concerns over potential supply shortages.
The latest decline follows a sharp rally in the previous trading session, when fears of conflict in the Middle East pushed oil prices significantly higher.
During the earlier session:
- Brent crude surged by 7.91%.
- WTI crude gained 6.56%.
That increase had followed a 5% decline recorded on Tuesday, after a brief pause in hostilities had reduced market concerns over supply disruptions.
Oil prices remain highly sensitive to geopolitical developments in the Middle East, which is home to a large share of the world’s oil production and export infrastructure. Traders continue to monitor the situation closely, particularly any developments that could affect shipping through strategic waterways or disrupt global energy supplies.
Despite the current price decline, analysts say continued uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Iran relations could keep oil markets volatile in the coming days, with prices likely to respond quickly to any escalation or signs of de-escalation in regional tensions.
