In a significant development for regional diplomacy and security cooperation, Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, held an important meeting with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The meeting, confirmed through a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral engagement between the two neighboring countries at a time of evolving regional challenges.

According to ISPR, Larijani arrived at GHQ where he was warmly received before beginning formal discussions with Field Marshal Asim Munir. The meeting focused on several key areas, including the strengthening of Pakistan–Iran relations, enhancement of bilateral cooperation, and a thorough assessment of the prevailing security landscape in the region.

Both sides emphasized the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and strategic ties shared by Pakistan and Iran. Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability, stressing that cooperative efforts between Islamabad and Tehran play a crucial role in countering threats such as terrorism and cross-border militancy. He underscored the need for close coordination, intelligence-sharing, and joint security initiatives to eliminate terrorist networks that pose risks to both countries.

The interaction also included discussions on the broader geopolitical situation, particularly the shifting dynamics in the Middle East and South Asia. With multiple regional conflicts, proxy tensions, and evolving alliances, both Pakistan and Iran acknowledged the necessity of coordinated diplomacy and strategic collaboration. Field Marshal Munir noted that peaceful borders and mutual trust are essential for sustainable economic progress, connectivity projects, and stability across the region.

Secretary Ali Larijani echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that enhanced Pakistan–Iran cooperation is essential for confronting regional challenges effectively. He stated that Tehran values its relationship with Islamabad and regards mutual engagement as vital for long-term stability, economic opportunity, and collective security. Larijani further remarked that coordinated security efforts between the two nations will help ensure peace not only along their shared border but across the wider region.

The meeting is being viewed by observers as part of a broader diplomatic recalibration in the region. Recent months have seen increased interaction between Pakistan and Iran in the realms of defense, trade, border management, and counterterrorism. The leadership of both states appears committed to preventing external forces from exploiting regional fault lines and to fostering an environment conducive to cooperation rather than conflict.

Analysts also point out that Pakistan and Iran share common concerns, including the rise of militant organizations, instability in Afghanistan, and threats posed by transnational crime. As such, high-level engagements like this meeting play a crucial role in addressing shared challenges through dialogue rather than unilateral measures.

The conversation at GHQ concluded with a mutual agreement to continue engaging at various institutional levels and to push forward ongoing mechanisms designed to strengthen communication and operational cooperation. Both sides expressed optimism that sustained interaction will help resolve security issues, promote peace initiatives, and build a safer, more interconnected region.
