BADIN: The Regional Office of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh in Badin organised an awareness seminar at the Laar Institute of Paramedics and Allied Health Sciences to educate students and staff about the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010 (Act IV of 2010).
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students, teachers, administrative staff and employees about legal protections against workplace harassment, employees’ rights and the importance of maintaining a safe, dignified and equal professional environment.
The keynote speaker, retired District and Sessions Judge Saleem Raza Baloch, gave a detailed presentation on the legal framework of the Act, its key provisions and measures for preventing workplace harassment.
Addressing the participants, he said the primary objective of the law is to eliminate harassment and discriminatory behaviour against women, enabling them to perform their professional responsibilities with dignity, confidence and peace of mind.
Saleem Raza Baloch emphasised that breaking the silence against harassment is the first and most important step towards eliminating it.
He also explained the legal procedure for filing complaints, the role of institutional inquiry committees and the process of submitting complaints to the Provincial Ombudsman. He informed participants that, under the law, the identity of complainants is kept strictly confidential and they are protected from any form of retaliatory action.
The seminar was attended by a large number of administrators, faculty members, students and staff of the institute.
The institute’s management appreciated the awareness programme and reaffirmed its commitment to implementing a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of harassment. The administration also reiterated its resolve to provide a safe, respectful, inclusive and equitable educational and professional environment.
