SUKKUR/GHOTKI: The work boycott by employees of the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) entered its second consecutive day after an alleged incident of misconduct involving Line Superintendent (LS) Amjad Noonari in Mirpur Mathelo.
The protest was organised by the Hydro Union, with workers demanding justice for their colleague and calling for action against those responsible for the alleged mistreatment. Employees suspended their routine duties and gathered in large numbers to express solidarity with LS Amjad Noonari.
A protest sit-in was held under the leadership of Hydro Union Zonal Chairman Javed Ahmed Abbasi. Workers from several SEPCO subdivisions participated, including Old Sukkur, Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, Rohri, Pano Aqil, and Ubauro. Protesters carried banners and raised slogans, urging the authorities to address their concerns without delay.
Representatives from the Old Sukkur Division also attended the demonstration. Among them were Aqeel Ahmed Dayo, Abdul Khaliq Sawand, Abid Gopang, Touqeer Bhatti, Jabbar Sheikh, and other union leaders, who expressed support for the ongoing strike and stressed the importance of protecting employees’ dignity and rights.
The protest also witnessed the participation of senior officials from the Ghotki Circle. Superintending Engineer Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Executive Engineer (XEN) Taj Muhammad Mako, along with other officers and employees, joined the gathering, reflecting widespread concern over the reported incident.
Addressing the protesters, union leaders said that employees would continue their peaceful protest until their demands were heard and appropriate action was taken. They stated that all workers deserve respect while performing their professional duties and that any alleged unfair treatment of staff should be investigated transparently.
The leaders emphasised that the strike was intended to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the issue. They urged SEPCO management to resolve the matter through dialogue and ensure a fair inquiry into the allegations involving LS Amjad Noonari.
Participants maintained that the protest remained peaceful throughout the day. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the work boycott if the issue was not resolved promptly. According to union representatives, employees from different subdivisions stood united in support of their colleague and pledged to continue collective action until justice was ensured.
The demonstration concluded with the protesters reiterating their demand for immediate action and a respectful working environment for all SEPCO employees. The work boycott and protest are expected to continue unless a satisfactory resolution is reached through negotiations between the union and the authorities.
