Badin: The Regional Office of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh organised an awareness seminar at the Laar Institute of Paramedics and Allied Health Sciences, Badin, to educate students and staff about the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010 (Act IV of 2010).
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students, faculty members, administrative staff, and employees about the legal protections available against workplace harassment, employees’ rights, and the importance of maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive professional environment.
The keynote speaker, retired District and Sessions Judge Saleem Raza Baloch, gave a detailed presentation on the legal framework of the Act, its key provisions, and mechanisms for preventing workplace harassment.
Addressing the participants, he said the primary objective of the law is to eliminate harassment and discriminatory behaviour against women, enabling them to perform their professional responsibilities with dignity, confidence, and peace of mind.
“Breaking the silence against harassment is the first and most important step towards eliminating it,” he said.
Judge Baloch also explained the legal procedure for filing complaints, the role of an institution’s inquiry committee, and the process of submitting complaints to the Provincial Ombudsman. He informed participants that the law ensures the confidentiality of complainants and provides protection against any form of retaliatory action.
The seminar was attended by a large number of administrators, faculty members, students, and staff of the Laar Institute of Paramedics and Allied Health Sciences.
The institute’s administration welcomed the awareness initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to implementing a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of workplace harassment. The management also pledged to continue promoting a safe, dignified, inclusive, and equitable educational and professional environment.
The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which participants sought clarification on various aspects of the law. The resource person responded with detailed explanations to address their queries.
