Islamabad: At least 22 people were injured after a passenger bus was involved in an accident near Chakdara on the Swat Expressway, according to the Motorway Police.

A spokesperson for the Motorway Police said the crash occurred when the bus reportedly suffered a brake failure while travelling near Chakdara.

Emergency responders, including Motorway Police personnel, reached the scene and provided immediate first aid to the injured passengers.

Several of the injured were later shifted to Batkhela Hospital and Mardan Medical Complex for further medical treatment, while others received treatment at the scene.

Authorities have not reported any fatalities in the incident.

The Motorway Police said preliminary findings indicate that the accident was caused by brake failure, although further investigation is expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

Road accidents caused by mechanical failures, including brake malfunctions, remain a recurring safety concern on Pakistan’s highways, prompting authorities to repeatedly urge transport operators to ensure regular vehicle maintenance before undertaking long-distance journeys.
