RABAT: Morocco has officially named its 655-mile (1,055-kilometre) coastal highway after US President Donald Trump, according to Arab media reports.
A royal decree issued by King Mohammed VI announced that the highway stretching from Tiznit to the southern city of Dakhla will now be known as the Donald J. Trump Highway.
Previously known as the Tiznit–Dakhla Expressway, the route extends approximately 655 miles (1,055 kilometres) along Morocco’s Atlantic coast. The project reportedly cost around US$1 billion to construct.
Responding to the announcement, President Trump thanked King Mohammed VI for what he described as a great honour.
“I thank the King of Morocco for this great honour,” Trump said in a message.
He also expressed hope that he would soon have the opportunity to travel on the newly named highway.
The royal decree, as reported by Arab media, marks the official renaming of one of Morocco’s major transport corridors in recognition of the US president.
