Washington, D.C.: The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has released updated casualty figures relating to the conflict involving Iran, reporting that 18 American service members have been killed and 624 injured to date.
According to the Pentagon, its Defence Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) was updated on Saturday to include more than 140 additional wounded personnel. The department also reinstated four US troops who were reportedly killed in recent Iranian attacks, reflecting the latest revisions to its casualty records.
US media reported that the Pentagon has introduced a new category within the Defence Casualty Analysis System titled “Overseas Operations”, under which casualties from military operations conducted abroad have been recorded since 7 July.
The updated database is intended to provide a more comprehensive accounting of personnel killed and wounded during overseas military operations.
The Pentagon has not released further operational details alongside the updated casualty figures.
