Islamabad: Pakistan has strongly condemned recent remarks by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, describing the statements as provocative, irresponsible and a deliberate distortion of internationally recognised facts surrounding the Kashmir dispute.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan firmly rejects the comments made by the Indian defence minister and remains fully prepared to counter any act of aggression or adventurism by India.
The spokesperson stated that Rajnath Singh’s remarks were an attempt to misrepresent the internationally recognised status of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, stressing that the issue remains on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and has yet to be resolved in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
According to the Foreign Office, India’s repeated statements on Kashmir reflect a deliberate policy of undermining regional and international peace. The spokesperson alleged that New Delhi was using provocative rhetoric to divert global attention from its continued control of Indian-administered Kashmir as well as from its internal political and security challenges.
The statement further accused India of attempting to shift attention away from what Pakistan described as its role in sponsoring terrorism in the region and its growing domestic instability. Islamabad maintained that inflammatory public statements by senior Indian officials contribute to heightened tensions in South Asia rather than promoting dialogue and stability.
The Foreign Office also warned India against underestimating Pakistan’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and national security. The spokesperson said that the Pakistani nation and its armed forces had demonstrated their determination during Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos last year, adding that Pakistan remains fully capable of responding to any threat to its territorial integrity.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding position on the Kashmir dispute, the spokesperson called on the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take notice of what Islamabad described as India’s continued irresponsible conduct and inflammatory rhetoric.
The Foreign Office urged the UN to hold India accountable for its failure to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan maintained that a peaceful and lasting resolution of the dispute should be achieved in accordance with international law and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The latest diplomatic exchange comes amid continued tensions between Pakistan and India over Kashmir, with both countries maintaining sharply different positions on the status of the disputed territory. The statements also reflect the ongoing strain in bilateral relations, where official rhetoric frequently centres on regional security, sovereignty and the unresolved Kashmir issue.
