Mirpur: Senior Sindh Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon has alleged that attempts were made to influence voters ahead of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, claiming that buses worth Rs200 million were sent to Mirpur a day before polling in an effort to sway public opinion.
Speaking to the media in Mirpur, Sharjeel Memon alleged that pre-poll rigging took place by deploying buses on the eve of the elections. He claimed that the move was aimed at misleading voters and influencing the electoral process.
“Sending buses worth Rs200 million just one day before the elections is an attempt to deceive the people,” Memon said, questioning the timing of the initiative.
The PPP leader further alleged that trucks and buses were being used before polling to influence voters. He questioned whether such measures could buy the support of the people of Kashmir, arguing that voters should be allowed to make their decisions freely and without external influence.
Sharjeel Memon said senior PPP leaders had travelled to Mirpur to monitor the situation and help prevent what he described as irregularities in the electoral process.
He also urged the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to take notice of what he alleged were the election-related activities of federal ministers, calling for impartial enforcement of electoral rules to ensure a free and fair vote.
The allegations were made by the PPP leader during a media interaction and have not been independently verified. No immediate response from the Election Commission or the parties concerned was available at the time of his remarks.
