Sukkur (Bureau Report): Residents of Sukkur have expressed serious concern over poor sanitation arrangements across the city, alleging that the absence of cleaning staff and the accumulation of garbage and construction debris in several neighbourhoods are creating health hazards and causing significant inconvenience.
According to residents, despite repeated promises by elected local government representatives, sanitation conditions remain unsatisfactory in many commercial, residential and high-traffic areas of the city. Large heaps of garbage can be seen in business centres as well as residential localities, including Hussaini Road, Ghareeb Abad and other parts of Sukkur, reflecting what citizens describe as the negligence of the municipal administration and elected representatives.
Residents also complained that debris from excavation work carried out for drainage and sewerage lines in Hussaini Road and Ghareeb Abad has remained uncleared for several months. They said the piles of rubble are obstructing movement through streets and making daily life difficult for local communities.
The accumulation of waste has also led to foul odours, raising fears of the spread of infectious diseases, particularly during the current weather conditions.
Civil society representatives and local residents have urged the authorities to take immediate notice of the deteriorating situation. They called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Sindh Minister for Local Government, Sukkur Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Sukkur, Municipal Commissioner, and other relevant officials to ensure prompt garbage removal, clear construction debris, and improve municipal services to provide residents with a clean and healthy environment.
