Badin, July 25: Badin Police have arrested five alleged gutka suppliers in separate operations and seized a large quantity of gutka, raw materials and a suspicious vehicle as part of the ongoing crackdown against the illegal trade.
According to a police spokesperson, the operations were carried out on the directives of Hyderabad Range DIG Tariq Razzaq Dharejo and Badin SSP Qamar Raza Jiskani.
During a checking operation, SHO Tando Bago Inspector Muhammad Anwar Laghari and his team intercepted a car and recovered 135 kilograms of areca nut (supari) used in gutka production along with 1,000 ready-made gutka packets. Police arrested four suspects identified as Azhar Solangi, Muhammad Urs Kaloi, Muhammad Ramzan Kamboh, and Imran Kalmati Baloch. The vehicle used for transporting the material was also taken into custody.
In a separate raid, SHO Badin Sub-Inspector Alawal Khaskheli arrested another alleged gutka dealer, Aftab Ahmed Chandio, and recovered 400 ready-made gutka packets from his possession.
Police said legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested suspects, adding that operations against the manufacture and distribution of gutka will continue across the district.
