Hyderabad (Bureau Report): Residents of Phase-I in Qasimabad have urged the Hyderabad district administration and the Water and Sewerage Corporation to immediately clear blocked sewer lines, warning that overflowing drains are creating serious hardships for worshippers and local residents ahead of the monsoon season.
According to details, sewage has been overflowing for several days in front of Masjid Khatun-e-Jannat and near the residences of late Principal Professor Apa Maryam Nuhani and political and social leader Mehboob Abro due to blocked drainage lines. The stagnant wastewater has made it difficult for residents and worshippers to access the mosque and nearby homes.
In a joint statement, political and social leader Mehboob Abro, social activist Shahid Soomro and Tanveer Sheikh criticised the performance of the Qasimabad Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), alleging that the drainage system had already collapsed even before the onset of seasonal rains.
They said sewage has also started overflowing at several locations along the Phase-I Post Office Road, blaming WASA officials for failing to act despite clear directives from the Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad to improve sanitation and drainage.
The residents warned that if the drainage system is not cleaned before the expected monsoon rains, Qasimabad could once again face widespread flooding and severe sanitation problems. They alleged that authorities typically begin cleaning operations only after heavy rainfall, when significant damage has already occurred.
The community leaders appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad and the Chief Executive Officer of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation to launch an immediate drainage cleaning campaign, clear all blocked sewer lines, cover open manholes and ensure proper maintenance of the drainage network to prevent flooding and protect public safety during the rainy season.
