South Waziristan: Pakistan’s security forces have foiled an attempted militant attack on a security check post in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing four alleged militants, including a suicide bomber, according to the military’s media wing.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said security personnel responded promptly and effectively after militants attempted to breach the check post’s security perimeter.
According to the ISPR, the attackers used an explosives-laden vehicle in an apparent attempt to carry out a suicide attack. Security forces engaged the vehicle before it could reach the check post, destroying it outside the security perimeter.
The military said the suicide bomber inside the vehicle was killed in the explosion, preventing damage to the check post and avoiding casualties among security personnel.
Following the initial engagement, security forces pursued the remaining three militants, who reportedly took refuge inside a nearby building.
The ISPR said troops conducted a follow-up operation and killed all three militants after clearing the building. It added that no security personnel were killed or injured during the operation.
According to the military, the swift response of the security forces successfully thwarted the attackers’ attempt to penetrate the check post and prevented what could have been a major terrorist attack.
The ISPR also stated that a clearance operation is continuing in the surrounding area to search for any additional militants who may have been involved in the attempted attack.
In its statement, the military described the attackers as members of Fitna al-Khawarij, the term officially used by the Pakistani state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and affiliated militants. The ISPR further alleged that the militants were backed by India, an allegation that India has consistently denied.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing counterterrorism operations until militancy is eliminated, saying security forces remain determined to neutralise all threats and maintain peace and stability in the region.
