Rawalpindi: Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has said that the people of Muzaffarabad have already delivered their verdict in favour of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), expressing confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a PML-N election campaign gathering in Rawalpindi, Aurangzeb claimed that only the PML-N has the ability to address the long-standing deprivations faced by the people of Azad Kashmir.
She said the visit of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to Kashmir had unsettled their political opponents.
“When Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz visited Kashmir, our opponents could not hide their frustration,” she said.
Calling on party workers to remain active, Aurangzeb urged them to ensure the success of PML-N candidates in the upcoming elections.
“Muzaffarabad has already announced its decision in favour of the PML-N. Party workers must work hard to secure victory for all our candidates,” she told supporters.
Taking aim at political rivals, the senior minister challenged them to match the development projects undertaken by the PML-N during its time in government.
“Crying and complaining will achieve nothing. Build motorways like Nawaz Sharif did. Build a metro service like Shehbaz Sharif did,” she said.
Responding to criticism directed at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Aurangzeb rejected claims that development had been limited to Lahore.
“They ask why roads were built only in Lahore. Visit Punjab and you will see roads have been constructed in cities across the province,” she said.
Highlighting the Punjab government’s initiatives, Aurangzeb claimed that green buses are now operating on the streets of Muzaffarabad and praised the provincial administration’s welfare programmes.
She said that within 18 months, the provincial government had provided 200,000 families with housing support under the Apna Ghar Apni Chhat programme.
Aurangzeb also stated that the Punjab government had distributed 100,000 laptops to students and awarded 50,000 Honhaar Scholarships to deserving youth.
She concluded by saying that the performance of the Punjab government had won public appreciation across the country.
“Today, people across Pakistan are saying they want a chief minister like Maryam Nawaz,” she said.
The remarks come as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, with leaders highlighting their development agendas and seeking public support. The claims made by Maryam Aurangzeb during her speech reflect the PML-N’s political position and campaign messaging.
