Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rainfall in several districts of Sindh as a strong monsoon system continues to affect southern parts of the country over the next two days.
According to the PMD, a low-pressure weather system currently persists over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas. However, the system is expected to weaken by tomorrow. Despite this, strong monsoon currents are penetrating the southern and central regions of Pakistan, increasing the likelihood of widespread rainfall across Sindh.
The department said intermittent rain is expected today and tomorrow in various parts of the province, with some areas likely to receive heavy downpours.
Heavy rainfall is forecast for Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, and surrounding districts. Meanwhile, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Hyderabad are expected to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The PMD has also predicted thunderstorms and rainfall in Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, and Jacobabad. Similar weather conditions are expected in Shikarpur, Sukkur, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze, where intermittent showers are likely over the forecast period.
For Karachi, the weather department said the city is expected to remain cloudy and humid over the next three days. Light rain or drizzle may occur today, with intermittent drizzle likely to continue during the three-day period.
The PMD further stated that strong winds may blow intermittently on Monday and Tuesday, while the outskirts of Karachi could receive thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall.
Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying areas, to stay updated with official weather advisories, as heavy rainfall may lead to water accumulation and temporary disruption of traffic in some locations.
The latest forecast comes as monsoon activity strengthens across southern Pakistan, with meteorologists continuing to monitor the movement of the weather system and any changes in its intensity. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
