WASHINGTON: The Wall Street Journal has reported that Bahrain and Kuwait secretly deployed fighter aircraft earlier this month to carry out strikes against military targets inside Iran, including facilities allegedly used to store drones and missiles.
According to the newspaper, the reported operation marked the first direct military action by Bahrain and Kuwait against Iran, highlighting what it described as the increasingly difficult security choices facing Gulf Arab states as regional tensions continue to escalate.
The report said the strikes targeted drone and missile storage sites, along with other military installations in Iran, during operations carried out earlier this month.
The Wall Street Journal further claimed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) supported the reported operation by providing intelligence on Iranian military targets and offering air defence assistance to Bahrain and Kuwait.
According to the report, the alleged involvement of Gulf states reflects growing concerns over regional security and the potential expansion of the conflict.
The newspaper’s claims have not been independently verified, and Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, and Iran had not publicly confirmed the reported operations at the time of publication.
If confirmed, the reported strikes would represent a significant escalation in regional tensions, as Bahrain and Kuwait have not previously acknowledged conducting direct air operations against targets inside Iran.
