SUKKUR: A resident of village Hassan near Rohri staged a protest outside the Sukkur National Press Club, demanding the arrest of suspects allegedly involved in a murderous attack on his wife and seeking intervention from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sukkur.
The protester, Umeed Ali Chohan, told the media that his wife, Arbeli Chohan, was previously married to Ikhtiar Ali Chohan, with whom she had a son and a daughter. Following Ikhtiar Ali’s death, she married Umeed Ali, and the couple now has a daughter together. He said the children from his wife’s first marriage also live with them.
According to Umeed Ali, a property dispute is at the center of the incident. He alleged that his wife’s late husband’s relatives—identified as Eidan Chohan, Gul Muhammad Chohan, and Arbab Chohan—were attempting to seize a seven-wisa residential property belonging to his wife.
He claimed that after the family refused to surrender the property and instead pursued legal remedies, the accused allegedly stormed their house while armed, held the family hostage, poured petrol on his wife, and attempted to set her on fire. He said his wife’s cries for help alerted neighbors, who intervened and rescued her before any serious harm could occur.
The suspects allegedly fled the scene after threatening the family to vacate the disputed property.
Umeed Ali stated that a case has been registered at the relevant police station but alleged that the police have so far failed to arrest the nominated suspects.
During the protest, he appealed to the DIG Sukkur and SSP Sukkur to take immediate notice of the matter, ensure the arrest of those allegedly involved, provide protection to his family, and take legal action to help them retain possession of the disputed property.
Police had not issued an official response to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
