KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast an increase in heat and humidity in Karachi, warning that the heat index—or “feels-like” temperature—could rise to 41°C or higher in parts of the city.
According to the PMD, hot and humid weather is expected to prevail throughout the day, with clear skies and intense sunshine during daylight hours.
The department said the maximum temperature over the next 24 hours is likely to remain between 36°C and 38°C.
At the time of the forecast, Karachi’s current temperature was recorded at 29°C, while relative humidity stood at 74 percent.
The PMD said light westerly winds were blowing at a speed of 3 kilometres per hour, contributing to the humid conditions.
It also noted that rain-bearing clouds may develop over the outskirts of Karachi, although no widespread rainfall has been forecast.
Meanwhile, a weather analyst predicted that the heat index could climb to 41°C or even higher in various parts of the city because of the combination of high humidity, rising temperatures, and light winds.
The forecast comes as Karachi continues to experience uncomfortable weather conditions, with humidity making temperatures feel significantly higher than the actual air temperature.
Residents have been advised to remain hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, wear light clothing, and take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly children, the elderly, and people working outdoors.
