WASHINGTON: The United States has begun deploying additional military personnel and resources to the Middle East amid preparations for possible military action against Iran, according to a report by a U.S. newspaper citing unnamed sources.

The report said Washington has started sending additional troops, special operations forces, medical personnel, and military equipment to the region to provide President Donald Trump with expanded military options should action against Iran become necessary.

According to the newspaper, sources said that U.S. Special Operations Forces have arrived in the Middle East from domestic bases over the past week. The report added that flight-tracking data and U.S. officials also support the assessment that military deployments have increased.

The report further stated that fighter aircraft squadrons have been deployed to various locations across the Middle East, while U.S. and British military bases have placed strategic bomber aircraft on high alert to enable a rapid escalation of military operations if required.

The reported deployments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and follow recent statements from President Donald Trump regarding Iran.

According to the report, President Trump has directed the U.S. military to prepare for intensified operations against Iran and warned that Tehran would face severe consequences.

Trump was quoted as saying that Iran would “pay a heavy price” and that military operations would continue.

The U.S. government has not publicly released detailed information regarding the scope or timeline of the reported deployments. Likewise, no official response from Iranian authorities was included in the report.

The developments reflect growing concerns over security in the Middle East as regional tensions continue to rise.
