KARACHI: A man was killed and his four-year-old son injured after a double-cabin pickup truck reportedly mounted a footpath and struck people sleeping there in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), police said.
The incident occurred in Bukhari Commercial, Phase VI, where the driver allegedly drove the vehicle onto the footpath before fleeing the scene.
According to police, the man died on the spot, while his young son sustained injuries and was shifted for medical treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are searching for the driver, who escaped with the vehicle after the incident.
The injured child’s family said they are residents of Korangi’s Nasir Jump area. Speaking to the media, the boy said his father was physically disabled and unemployed, while he and his three brothers earned a living by selling flowers to support the family.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the suspect and determine the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
