SUKKUR: The All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union (CBA), SEPCO Region Sukkur, staged a protest demonstration and sit-in on Minara Road against the proposed privatization of WAPDA companies, employees’ issues, and other pending demands.
The protesters urged the government to immediately accept their demands and warned that if their legitimate concerns were not addressed, the union would launch a countrywide protest movement.
The demonstration was led by Regional Secretary Haji Khalil-ur-Rehman Domki, along with Shujaat Hussain Ghumro, Nazar Muhammad Memon, Maqsood Ahmed Mallah, Shamsuddin, Aqeel Ahmed Dayo, Ashfaq Ahmed Mahar, Javed Ahmed Abbasi, Abdul Malik Soomro, Abid Gopang, and other union leaders.
A large number of union members participated in the protest, carrying banners and placards displaying slogans in support of their demands.
Addressing the gathering, union leaders strongly opposed the government’s proposed privatization of WAPDA and electricity distribution companies, declaring that such a policy would not be accepted under any circumstances.
They emphasized that employees’ rights would be protected at all costs and called on the authorities to resolve all legitimate issues facing the workforce.
The speakers also expressed optimism that the scheduled discussions on July 24 would result in positive progress regarding employees’ concerns, including the payment of bonuses and other pending matters.
The union leadership reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights, stating that it would continue its struggle while seeking to resolve all issues through dialogue, consultation, and negotiations.
