QUETTA: Reconciliation efforts led by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti have succeeded as the provincial government, the families of the Ziarat martyrs, and the protest committee reached a written agreement following successful negotiations.
Protest committee member Nasrullah Zerey said both sides had reached a consensus on the draft agreement and formally signed the document.
Under the agreement, a judicial commission will be established to investigate the Ziarat incident.
The agreement also states that a joint law and order meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, will be convened with the participation of opposition members and the families of the martyrs.
According to the accord, the victims of the Ziarat incident will be officially recognized as martyrs under the government’s policy. Their families will receive financial compensation, long-term support, and educational assistance for their children.
The agreement further provides that government buildings will be named in honor of the martyrs. A committee headed by the Provincial Revenue Minister will also be formed to address public concerns related to revenue matters.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said it is the government’s responsibility to care for the families of the martyrs, adding that the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC), and police personnel would never be forgotten.
Following the signing of the agreement, the sit-ins staged in Quetta and Ziarat by the families of police personnel martyred in the terrorist attack were called off.
The funeral prayers for the martyrs are scheduled to be offered at 4:00 p.m. today at Ayub Stadium in Quetta.
