ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers reportedly favored holding a single public rally on August 5 instead of launching a nationwide protest movement, according to sources familiar with the party’s parliamentary meeting.
The reported deliberations took place during a meeting of the PTI parliamentary party, where members discussed the party’s strategy for the planned political activity on August 5.
According to the sources, a majority of the participants supported organizing a public gathering (jalsa) rather than initiating a broader protest campaign across the country.
The discussion reportedly centered on determining the most effective way to express the party’s political stance while maintaining organizational unity.
Sources said that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, along with most of the lawmakers present, supported the proposal for a one-day rally instead of a prolonged political movement.
According to the participants cited by the sources, concentrating the party’s efforts on a single gathering would be a more practical and manageable approach than launching nationwide demonstrations.
“We should hold one public rally instead of organizing countrywide protests,” members were quoted as saying during the meeting.
The sources further stated that several lawmakers believed the party’s protest should remain limited to the planned rally and continue to focus on issues relating to PTI founder Imran Khan’s detention, rather than expanding into a broader nationwide movement.
Participants reportedly expressed the view that keeping the campaign focused would help convey the party’s message more effectively.
The meeting also reportedly decided that the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen Pakistan (Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan) would be informed about the proposed rally and consulted regarding its participation or coordination.
The discussions come as PTI continues to formulate its political strategy amid ongoing legal and political challenges faced by the party and its leadership.
At the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued by PTI confirming the decisions attributed to the parliamentary party meeting. The information is based on accounts provided by sources familiar with the discussions.
If the proposal is formally approved by the party leadership, the August 5 event would likely take the form of a single political rally rather than a nationwide protest campaign. Further details regarding the venue, schedule, and participation are expected to be announced by PTI following internal consultations and coordination with allied political groups.
