LAHORE: The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court has approved a new scheme under which judicial officers across Punjab will be able to purchase government vehicles at heavily subsidized prices ranging from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000.

According to an official circular, the initiative has been introduced under the Transport Monetization Facility, benefiting nearly 2,000 judicial officers serving in courts across the province.

The scheme allows eligible judicial officers to acquire official vehicles at concessional rates as part of efforts to streamline transport-related facilities and improve administrative efficiency within the judiciary.

Those eligible for the scheme include District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges, Civil Judges, and Family Court Judges.

The facility has also been extended to judges serving in Anti-Terrorism Courts, Accountability Courts, Banking Courts, FIA Courts, Anti-Narcotics Courts, Customs Courts, and Labour Courts.

In addition, judicial officers belonging to the Punjab judiciary who are currently serving on deputation at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad High Court, Constitutional Court, and other institutions will also be entitled to benefit from the scheme.

Under the Transport Monetization Facility, eligible officers will have the opportunity to purchase government-owned vehicles at prices significantly lower than market value. The official circular states that the subsidized prices will range from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000, depending on the category of vehicle and the eligibility criteria.

The initiative is expected to simplify the management of official transport while providing judicial officers with an opportunity to own the vehicles allocated for official use at affordable rates.

The approval reflects ongoing administrative reforms within the Punjab judiciary aimed at modernizing institutional policies and improving the welfare of judicial officers. Officials believe the transport monetization model will help reduce long-term maintenance and operational costs associated with government vehicle fleets while offering a practical benefit to members of the judiciary.

The scheme is expected to be implemented in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the official circular, with eligible judicial officers able to avail themselves of the facility under the prescribed terms and conditions.
