Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Azad Jammu and Kashmir has finalised the names of candidates for 31 constituencies for the 2026 AJK Legislative Assembly elections after extensive consultations by its parliamentary board,
According to the report, PTI AJK has decided to field young ideological workers instead of relying on traditional electable candidates in the upcoming elections.
PTI AJK President and former prime minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, who chaired the parliamentary board, has forwarded the board’s recommendations to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan for final approval.
Under the proposed list, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi will contest from LA-18 Abbaspur. Khawaja Farooq Ahmed has been nominated for Muzaffarabad City, Mir Atiqur Rehman for Kotla, Zeeshan Haider for Chakar and Ansar Pirzada for Leepa.
In the Mirpur division, Chaudhry Ghulam Rabbani will contest from Dadyal, Chaudhry Zafar Anwar from Chakswari, Chaudhry Hamid Pothi from Khari Sharif, Chaudhry Asif from Bhimber City and Tayyab Iftikhar Hussain from Barnala.
For Kotli division, Malik Nisar Ahmed has been nominated from Raj Mahal, Naeem Arzoo from Nakyal, Muhammad Rafiq from Kotli City, Ghaffar Shahid from Charhoi, Sardar Abdul Razzaq from Sehnsa and Bashir Gorsee from Khoi Ratta.
In the Bagh district, Tauseef Abbasi will contest from West Bagh, Masoodur Rehman Advocate from Central Bagh and Sardar Tahir Akbar from East Bagh.
Chaudhry Aamir Nazir has been nominated from Haveli, while Sardar Arzish will contest from Hajira, Sardar Khitab from Khaigala, Sardar Nayyar Ayub from Rawalakot City and Sardar Atif from Pachiot.
Junaid Altaf has been selected for Palandri, while Sardar Zaeem will contest from the Baloch constituency.
For Neelum Valley, Qazi Israel has been nominated from Upper Neelum and Mian Muhammad Shafiq from Lower Neelum, while Raja Mansoor will contest from Khawara.
The parliamentary board has, however, kept the constituencies of Lachhrat and Mirpur City pending for further consideration.
The final approval of candidates will be issued after endorsement by the party’s central leadership.
