KP Assembly passes budget for FY 2026-27 by majority vote

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday approved the provincial budget for the financial year 2026-27 by a majority vote, paving the way for the implementation of the government’s financial and development agenda for the coming year.

The House also approved the proposed amendments to the Annual Development Programme (ADP), while opposition parties withdrew their cut motions during the budget proceedings.

Provincial Minister for Law and Finance Aftab Alam presented 66 financial demands before the assembly, all of which were approved by lawmakers. The approved budget allocates billions of rupees to key sectors, including health, education, law enforcement, infrastructure, and public welfare.

According to the budget documents, the largest allocation has been made for the health sector, which will receive Rs 262.62 billion. The police department has been allocated Rs 138 billion, while Rs 52.46 billion has been earmarked for higher education.

The finance department has been allocated Rs 14.73 billion, whereas more than Rs 4.56 billion has been approved for the home department.

The government has also allocated Rs 7.77 billion for the communication sector and Rs 11.27 billion for irrigation projects aimed at improving water management and agricultural productivity across the province.

For mineral development, the assembly approved Rs 2.27 billion, while Rs 1.24 billion has been set aside for population welfare initiatives.

In addition, the House approved Rs 627.9 million for the operational expenses of the provincial assembly.

With the passage of the budget and the approval of all financial demands, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is set to begin implementing its fiscal plans and development projects for the 2026-27 financial year. The approval came after detailed discussions in the assembly, marking the completion of the province’s budgetary process for the new fiscal year.
