Gilgit: Thirty of the 33 newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have taken oath, marking an important step in the formation of the region’s new legislative setup.
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Nazir Ahmed Advocate, who administered the oath to the newly elected lawmakers.
According to official details, members from several political parties participated in the ceremony. Among those sworn in were 13 members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and 9 members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
In addition, 6 members of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and one member of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) also took the oath of office.
A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent member was also among the lawmakers who were sworn in during the session.
The oath-taking ceremony formally enabled the newly elected representatives to begin their legislative responsibilities and participate in the assembly’s proceedings. The completion of this process paves the way for further constitutional and parliamentary activities, including the election of key assembly officeholders and the formation of the new government structure in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Political observers view the development as a significant milestone following the recent elections, as the newly constituted assembly prepares to address governance, development, infrastructure, and public welfare issues facing the region.
With 30 members now officially sworn in, attention is expected to shift toward the next stages of government formation and the establishment of parliamentary committees and administrative arrangements within the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
