LAHORE: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that positive developments regarding a potential Iran–United States agreement are expected within the next one to two days, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Field Marshal will represent Pakistan in the process.
Speaking in an informal interaction with the media in Lahore, the interior minister expressed optimism that tensions between Iran and the United States would soon be resolved and that a peace agreement would be finalized.
“Good News Expected Soon”
Mohsin Naqvi stated that progress on the Iran–US deal is moving in a positive direction and that “good news” regarding the agreement is likely to emerge shortly.
He said that diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions and move toward a peaceful settlement between the two countries.
According to him, Pakistan is closely monitoring developments and remains engaged at the diplomatic level as part of broader regional stability efforts.
Pakistan’s Role in Representation
The interior minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Field Marshal would represent Pakistan in matters related to the expected agreement.
He did not provide further details about the nature of Pakistan’s role but indicated that Islamabad is prepared to participate in diplomatic processes connected to the evolving situation.
Claims of Economic Stability Measures
Mohsin Naqvi also referred to domestic economic management, particularly fuel pricing.
He stated that petroleum prices had been stabilized through careful planning and policy measures.
According to him, without such intervention, petrol prices could have increased sharply, potentially reaching a much higher level in a single adjustment.
Background on Diplomatic Developments
His remarks come amid statements from the prime minister suggesting that the United States and Iran are close to reaching a peace agreement, with expectations of finalization within the next 24 hours.
The prime minister had earlier indicated that Pakistan is preparing for electronic signing of the agreement and that technical-level talks are expected to follow in the coming week.
He also expressed gratitude to both countries for their engagement in negotiations and constructive approach during dialogue efforts.
Hope for Regional Stability
The proposed agreement, if finalized, is expected to reduce regional tensions and contribute to stability in the Middle East.
Officials believe that sustained diplomatic engagement and international cooperation could pave the way for long-term peace, economic cooperation, and improved relations among regional stakeholders.
Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, particularly in regions where instability can have wider global implications.
Conclusion
While no formal agreement has yet been confirmed by the parties involved, Pakistani officials have expressed strong optimism that a breakthrough may be imminent.
