RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces have killed a total of 48 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted over the last 72 hours in North Waziristan, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing said the operations were carried out in and around the Miranshah area as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate militant networks operating in the region. The successful actions targeted members of the banned militant outfit referred to by the state as Fitna al-Khawarij.
According to the ISPR, 21 militants were killed during the latest phase of operations. Among those eliminated were several key figures identified as Khalid, Maftoon, Musa, and Imran, who were described as active operatives involved in planning and carrying out terrorist activities.
The military stated that the security forces acted on credible intelligence and launched coordinated operations against militant hideouts. During the engagements, troops effectively neutralized the militants and recovered a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from their possession.
Four Ring Leaders Among the Dead
The ISPR further revealed that four ring leaders were among the 48 militants killed during the three-day campaign. These commanders were allegedly involved in orchestrating attacks against security personnel and civilians in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former tribal districts.
Military officials believe the elimination of these senior commanders will deal a significant blow to militant networks attempting to destabilize the region. The operations are part of Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism strategy aimed at dismantling extremist groups and preventing future attacks.
According to the statement, the slain militants had been wanted by security agencies for their involvement in numerous acts of terrorism, including targeted killings, attacks on military installations, and assaults on innocent civilians.
Ongoing Sanitization Operations
The ISPR emphasized that follow-up “sanitization operations” are continuing at full pace to ensure that no remaining militants are able to escape or regroup. Security personnel are conducting extensive searches in surrounding areas to clear any residual threats and secure the region completely.
Military authorities stated that these operations are being carried out with the support of intelligence agencies and local law enforcement institutions. The objective is not only to eliminate active militants but also to destroy their logistical networks, weapons caches, and communication infrastructure.
Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from the country and ensuring lasting peace in affected regions.
Security Situation in North Waziristan
North Waziristan has long been one of the focal points of Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations. The district, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed numerous military campaigns over the past decade aimed at dismantling militant sanctuaries.
Although major military operations significantly improved the security situation in recent years, sporadic militant attacks have continued to occur. Security experts note that militant groups often attempt to exploit difficult terrain and cross-border movement to maintain their presence in remote areas.
In response, Pakistani security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations, targeting specific militant elements rather than relying solely on large-scale military campaigns. Authorities say these precision operations have led to the elimination of several high-value targets and have disrupted planned terrorist activities.
National Commitment Against Terrorism
The latest operations come amid continued efforts by the Pakistani state to strengthen internal security and counter extremist threats. Government officials and military leaders have repeatedly emphasized that no terrorist group will be allowed to challenge the writ of the state.
Analysts believe the killing of 48 militants, including senior commanders, represents a significant operational success and reflects the increasing effectiveness of intelligence-led counterterrorism efforts.
The ISPR concluded its statement by reaffirming that security forces will continue pursuing militants wherever they are found and will maintain pressure on terrorist networks until complete peace and stability are restored.
The military also paid tribute to the courage and professionalism of the troops involved in the operations, stating that their determination remains crucial in the ongoing fight against terrorism and in safeguarding the lives of Pakistani citizens.
