Karachi, June 4, 2026: Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Ms. Amna Baloch called on Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman) Naveed Kamran Baloch at his office in Karachi to discuss matters related to the welfare, facilitation, and grievance redressal of Overseas Pakistanis.

During the meeting, both officials exchanged views on the challenges faced by Pakistanis living abroad and explored ways to strengthen coordination between the Foreign Office, Pakistani missions overseas, and the Federal Ombudsman’s Secretariat.

Speaking on the occasion, Federal Ombudsman Naveed Kamran Baloch emphasized the importance of Overseas Pakistanis, describing them as one of the country’s most valuable assets. He said that his institution attaches the highest priority to addressing the concerns of Pakistanis residing abroad and ensuring that their complaints are resolved promptly and efficiently.

The Ombudsman noted that the commitment of his office can be measured by the establishment of a dedicated Grievance Commissioner for Overseas Pakistanis, which operates within the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat. The office is specifically tasked with handling complaints and resolving issues faced by members of the Pakistani diaspora in an expedited manner.

He further stated that, on the initiative of the Federal Ombudsman, every Pakistani diplomatic mission abroad has appointed a focal person responsible for dealing with complaints and facilitating Overseas Pakistanis. These focal persons have been directed to ensure timely responses to grievances and maintain regular contact with members of the community.

According to the Ombudsman, Pakistani missions have also been instructed to designate one day every week for direct interaction with Overseas Pakistanis. The purpose of these meetings is to hear complaints, provide guidance, and address issues being faced by Pakistanis living and working in foreign countries.

The initiative is aimed at improving access to government services, enhancing responsiveness, and strengthening trust between Overseas Pakistanis and Pakistani diplomatic missions.

Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch appreciated the efforts being made by the Federal Ombudsman’s office and highlighted the role of Pakistani embassies and consulates in supporting citizens abroad. She said that diplomatic missions are already working to assist Overseas Pakistanis in various matters, including documentation, legal support, welfare services, and emergency assistance.

The Foreign Secretary assured the Federal Ombudsman that the instructions and recommendations issued by his office would be implemented in letter and spirit by Pakistani missions overseas. She reiterated the Foreign Office’s commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring that the concerns of Overseas Pakistanis receive due attention.

Overseas Pakistanis play a significant role in the country’s economy through remittances and investment, while also serving as ambassadors of Pakistan in different parts of the world. Their welfare and facilitation have remained key priorities for successive governments.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen institutional mechanisms for addressing the problems of Overseas Pakistanis and to ensure that they receive timely support through diplomatic channels and public service institutions.

The discussion concluded with both sides expressing their commitment to enhancing cooperation and improving grievance redressal systems for Pakistanis living abroad, enabling them to remain better connected with their homeland and its institutions.
