Tel Aviv: The head of Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad has reportedly dismissed his deputy director following an alleged failure to achieve objectives related to efforts aimed at destabilizing or overthrowing the Iranian government.

According to reports, Mossad’s newly appointed chief Roman Gofman, who assumed office only recently, took immediate internal action within the agency. Shortly after taking charge, he is said to have removed his deputy director from the position over what internal sources described as “unsatisfactory operational outcomes.”

The dismissal comes amid reports of internal reshuffling within the intelligence agency. Earlier, the head of Mossad’s international relations division reportedly resigned suddenly, with speculation that additional senior officials may also step down in the coming period as part of an internal accountability process.

A US-based news outlet reported that the deputy director had previously been allocated significant operational resources, including a large covert network of agents and substantial funding estimated at around one billion shekels. Despite these resources, the mission allegedly aimed at weakening or destabilizing Iran’s political structure did not achieve the expected outcomes.

The results were reportedly deemed unacceptable by the agency’s leadership, prompting the leadership change shortly after the new director assumed command.

In an official public statement, however, Mossad chief Roman Gofman reportedly praised the dismissed official’s 22 years of service to the organization, highlighting his long career and contributions to intelligence operations. The identity of the dismissed deputy director has not been officially disclosed and is only referred to in reports as “A.”

The development reflects ongoing internal restructuring within Israel’s intelligence establishment, as regional tensions and geopolitical rivalries continue to intensify.

Analysts suggest that intelligence agencies often undergo leadership adjustments following major operational setbacks, particularly in high-stakes regions such as the Middle East, where covert activities are closely tied to national security objectives.

Further details regarding internal decisions and future organizational changes within Mossad have not been officially confirmed.
