Lebanon: An Israeli airstrike has reportedly killed a Lebanese Army Brigadier General and at least 10 people, in what is being described as a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement.
According to reports, Israeli forces carried out air operations in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of a senior Lebanese military officer along with several others. The attack also left 22 people injured, further escalating tensions in the region.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister strongly condemned the incident, confirming that among the dead were three military personnel, including the senior officer. He termed the strike a “heinous attack” on Lebanon and its people, saying it represents a clear violation of the ceasefire and an assault on national sovereignty.
The latest escalation has raised concerns over the fragility of the ceasefire arrangement, with fears that continued violations could further destabilize the already volatile border region.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for multiple retaliatory operations in southern Lebanon, stating that it targeted Israeli forces and Merkava tanks that had allegedly entered Lebanese territory. The group further claimed it conducted 22 operations against Israeli military positions over the weekend.
The Israeli military has not yet issued a detailed response regarding the reported casualties or the specific claims made by Hezbollah.
Tensions between Israel and armed groups in Lebanon have intensified in recent weeks, with repeated cross-border incidents contributing to growing regional instability. Observers warn that continued escalation could risk a broader conflict if diplomatic efforts fail to restore calm.
Further developments are expected as both sides continue to exchange attacks amid ongoing security concerns along the border.
