Sukkur, June 6, 2026: Sukkur Police have intensified preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram with a comprehensive review of security and law-and-order measures across the district. An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of SSP Sukkur Azhar Khan at the conference hall of the SSP Office to finalize arrangements aimed at ensuring peace and security during the holy month.

Senior Police Officers Attend Meeting

The meeting was attended by ASP City Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Sohaib Amin, all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Station House Officers (SHOs), the District Intelligence Branch (DIB) in-charge, and officers from various police branches.

Participants reviewed the overall security contingency plan for Muharram, including arrangements for religious gatherings, mourning processions, traffic management, and the maintenance of public order throughout the district.

Comprehensive Security Measures Ordered

Addressing the meeting, SSP Azhar Khan directed all officers to strengthen and expand security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram. He emphasized that every available resource should be utilized to prevent any untoward incident and to ensure the safety of participants in religious events.

He instructed officers to remain vigilant and to coordinate closely with all relevant stakeholders to maintain peace during the sensitive period.

Search and Checking Operations to Be Intensified

The SSP ordered police officials to enhance:

  • Search operations
  • Combing operations
  • Snap checking activities

across the district.

He stressed that strict action should be taken against suspicious individuals, members of banned organizations, and anyone attempting to disrupt law and order. Police were directed to enforce the law without discrimination and to respond promptly to any security threats.

Coordination with Procession and Majlis Organizers

SSP Azhar Khan instructed all SHOs and DSPs to maintain close contact with organizers of Muharram processions and religious gatherings.

Police officers were directed to provide full cooperation regarding security arrangements and ensure that all events are conducted peacefully and in accordance with approved plans and regulations.

Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech and Rumors

The SSP reiterated that authorities would adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward any activity that could inflame sectarian tensions or disturb public peace.

He warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in:

  • Hate speech
  • Distribution of inflammatory material
  • Provocative speeches
  • Spreading rumors or misinformation
  • Attempts to incite sectarian discord

According to the SSP, no effort to undermine communal harmony during Muharram will be tolerated.

Review of Crime Prevention Measures

Alongside Muharram security preparations, SSP Azhar Khan also reviewed the district’s overall law-and-order situation and ongoing crime prevention efforts.

During discussions with police officers, he emphasized the importance of continuing effective operations against criminal elements and maintaining a visible police presence throughout the district.

Instructions for Improved Policing

All SHOs were directed to:

  • Continue targeted operations against criminals
  • Increase police patrols in their jurisdictions
  • Expand snap checking activities
  • Ensure timely redressal of public complaints
  • Improve response to citizens’ concerns and issues

The SSP stressed that public confidence in law enforcement depends on prompt action and effective service delivery.

Commitment to Peaceful Muharram

Sukkur Police officials stated that extensive planning is underway to ensure that Muharram processions and religious gatherings take place in a peaceful and secure environment.

Authorities have pledged to work closely with community leaders, organizers, and other government departments to maintain stability and facilitate religious observances throughout the district.
