KARACHI: Ongoing unannounced electricity load-shedding in Karachi has begun affecting public transportation services, with the city’s electric bus (EV) service facing partial disruptions due to a prolonged power outage at a key operational facility.
According to the administration of the Peoples Bus Service Karachi, electricity supply to the Mehran Depot has remained suspended for the past three days. As a result, the depot has been unable to fully charge and operate its fleet of electric vehicles, creating challenges for maintaining regular bus services.
Officials stated that to minimize inconvenience for commuters, the service operator has been temporarily deploying hybrid buses on routes normally served by electric buses. While this arrangement has allowed services to continue, it has affected the efficiency and intended operation of the EV transport system.
