Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the cancellation of a concert that was planned as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

In a message shared on social media, Trump criticized the entertainment industry, saying that many singers and performers demand excessive fees and that their music no longer resonates with the public. He also suggested that some artists contribute little beyond public complaints.

According to Trump, the planned concert will now be replaced with a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) rally, which will serve as the centerpiece of the celebration.

Change in Celebration Plans

The concert had originally been scheduled as part of a 16-day commemorative program organized by Freedom 250, a nonprofit group associated with preparations for the nation’s semiquincentennial celebrations.

The event was expected to take place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and feature musical performances and public festivities honoring the country’s 250 years of independence.

However, U.S. media reports indicate that several artists had recently declined invitations to perform at the event, creating uncertainty about the concert’s lineup and overall viability.

MAGA Rally to Replace Concert

Following the cancellation, Trump announced that a large political-style rally would take place instead. The event is scheduled for June 24, where the president is expected to deliver a speech focusing on patriotism, national achievements, and his political vision for the country.

Supporters of the change have argued that a rally would better reflect the themes of national pride and civic participation. Critics, however, have questioned whether replacing a national cultural event with a political gathering could further polarize what was intended to be a broad public celebration.

America’s 250th Anniversary

The United States is preparing for a series of events commemorating 250 years since the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Federal, state, and local organizations have been planning exhibitions, ceremonies, educational programs, and public celebrations to mark the historic milestone.

Trump’s decision to replace the concert with a MAGA rally adds a political dimension to the anniversary preparations and is likely to generate further discussion as the celebrations approach.
