Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan-China Institute Mushahid Hussain Syed has claimed that a possible agreement between Iran and the United States is expected to be signed after Eid, stating that negotiations between the two countries have reached an advanced stage.
Speaking on a television program, Mushahid Hussain said that the Iran–US agreement is “almost finalized” and only formal signing remains, which he believes will take place after Eid.
“Iran and the United States have nearly finalized an agreement, and it will be signed after Eid,” he said.
He did not provide further details about the nature of the expected agreement, but suggested that diplomatic progress between Tehran and Washington has moved significantly forward behind the scenes.
During the same discussion, Mushahid Hussain also commented on the Abraham Accords, stating that such an arrangement is “not acceptable” and “not practically possible” for Pakistan and several other regional countries.
He reiterated that Pakistan’s position remains consistent regarding regional issues and broader Middle Eastern diplomacy.
Separately, former Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry also weighed in on the matter, emphasizing that Pakistan and other countries in the region cannot abandon the Palestinian cause.
He stated that the idea of Pakistan accepting the Abraham Accords does not arise, given the country’s longstanding principled position on the Palestinian issue and support for a two-state solution.
The Abraham Accords, first signed in 2020, normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. However, the agreements have remained controversial in parts of the Muslim world, particularly due to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Pakistan has repeatedly stated that it will not recognize Israel until a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue is achieved in line with international resolutions.
Analysts note that statements from senior policymakers and former diplomats reflect Pakistan’s continued emphasis on balancing regional diplomacy while maintaining its traditional stance on Middle Eastern conflicts.
Mushahid Hussain’s remarks regarding a potential Iran–US agreement come at a time when global attention remains focused on efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, particularly amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and shifting diplomatic alignments.
Observers believe that any breakthrough between Iran and the United States would carry significant implications for regional stability, energy markets, and international relations, especially in the Gulf region.
