PESHAWAR: At least 11 passengers were killed and seven others injured after a speeding van collided with a passenger bus on the Swat Expressway near Ismaila, officials said.

According to Mardan police, the van involved in the accident was traveling to Dir when the tragic collision occurred. Rescue teams and motorway police rushed to the scene shortly after the incident and began relief operations.

Motorway Police officials confirmed that seven people sustained injuries in the crash and were shifted to Mardan Medical Complex for treatment. Hospital sources said the condition of three injured passengers remains critical.

Authorities stated that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the van driver. Initial investigations suggest the vehicle was being driven at high speed, which resulted in the driver losing control before crashing into the bus.

The impact of the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to the van and leaving several passengers trapped inside. Rescue workers, along with local residents, participated in efforts to pull victims from the wreckage.

Officials said the bodies of those who lost their lives would be handed over to their families after completion of legal formalities and identification procedures.

Road accidents remain a major concern in Pakistan, particularly on highways and expressways where speeding, reckless driving, and poor road safety measures frequently lead to fatal incidents. Authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to follow traffic rules, avoid overspeeding, and ensure vehicles are fit for travel to prevent such tragedies.

The latest accident has once again highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved awareness regarding road safety among drivers and transport operators.
