Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has embarked on a four-day official visit to China, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, political relations, and economic cooperation, according to a spokesperson from the Foreign Office. The visit, which began today, will continue until May 26.
During the first phase of the trip, the Prime Minister arrived in Hangzhou, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Atta Tarar, Minister for IT Shiza Fatima, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi. The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized that the purpose of the visit is to promote collaboration between Pakistan and China across multiple sectors, with a special focus on political dialogue and economic partnerships.
In Hangzhou, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet with the Party Secretary of Zhejiang Province. Discussions are also expected to cover the current situation in the Middle East, with China supporting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for conflict resolution.
As part of the visit, Pakistani delegations will participate in a business forum organized under CPEC Phase 2 to enhance cooperation between Pakistani and Chinese companies. Agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be exchanged, promoting investment and trade relations. The Prime Minister will also meet CEOs of prominent Chinese companies and visit key institutions, including a leading Chinese company’s headquarters and the China Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Following the Hangzhou visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Beijing to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. Additionally, he will attend an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
