Islamabad: Pakistan has strongly condemned the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces in international waters and expressed serious concern over the detention and alleged mistreatment of human rights activists aboard the vessel.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson, Pakistan denounced the actions taken by Israeli authorities against the aid flotilla and described the detention of humanitarian workers in international waters as unacceptable.
The spokesperson said Pakistan is particularly concerned about the reports of illegal detention and alleged mistreatment of activists who were part of the humanitarian mission.
Officials confirmed that Pakistani social worker Saad Edhi is also among those currently in custody.
The Foreign Office stated that Pakistan has called for the immediate release of all aid workers who were allegedly detained unlawfully during the operation.
“Pakistan strongly condemns the arbitrary detention of humanitarian workers in international waters,” the spokesperson said.
The government also urged the international community to ensure the safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of all detained individuals.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistani diplomatic missions are actively engaged with relevant authorities to facilitate the safe return of Pakistani citizens involved in the incident.
The Global Sumud Flotilla was reportedly carrying humanitarian assistance and human rights activists when it was intercepted by Israeli forces.
The incident has attracted international attention and criticism from several humanitarian and rights organizations, which argue that aid missions operating in international waters should not be obstructed.
Pakistan reiterated its support for humanitarian efforts aimed at assisting civilians affected by conflict and emphasized the importance of respecting international law and humanitarian principles.
The Foreign Office said actions against humanitarian workers and aid missions undermine international norms and raise serious concerns regarding human rights protections.
The statement also reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian people and called for unhindered humanitarian access to affected populations.
Analysts say the incident could further increase diplomatic criticism of Israel’s actions related to humanitarian operations in the region.
Pakistan has repeatedly voiced support for peaceful humanitarian initiatives and has urged the global community to ensure the protection of civilians and relief workers in conflict zones.
The Foreign Office added that it remains in close contact with diplomatic channels and will continue efforts to ensure the well-being and safe return of all Pakistani nationals involved in the flotilla mission.
Human rights groups internationally have also demanded transparency regarding the condition and treatment of the detained activists.
