PESHAWAR: Three children died after a gas cylinder explosion caused the roof of a house to collapse in Peshawar, while a woman and a girl remain under treatment at hospital, officials said.

The blast occurred late on Wednesday night at a house near Pajjagi Road, reportedly following a gas leak. The force of the explosion caused the roof to collapse, trapping five members of the same family — a woman and four children — under the rubble.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the site after receiving information about the incident and pulled all five injured people from the debris. They were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in critical condition.

A spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital said three of the injured children later died while receiving treatment. The woman and one girl are still being treated at the hospital.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the deaths, saying the loss of the young children was deeply tragic.

In a statement, he extended his condolences to the affected family and wished the injured woman and girl a speedy recovery.

The governor directed the relevant authorities to ensure the injured received the best possible medical care and that no negligence occurred in their treatment.

Previous gas cylinder incidents

Gas cylinder explosions have also caused fatalities and injuries in other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In June 2025, six members of a family died and two girls were injured after a cylinder explosion caused the roof of a two-storey house to collapse in Mardan’s Aram Colony.

Earlier, in February 2025, at least 12 people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded at a roadside cafe near Khyber Teaching Hospital in Peshawar.

In June 2023, three children died after a suspected gas cylinder explosion caused the roof of a house on Dora Road in Peshawar to collapse, trapping their parents and children beneath the rubble.
