An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Thursday acquitted former PTI MPA Amjad Afridi in the case of hooliganism and snatching of ballot papers during the local bodies’ elections.

Danish Afridi and Imran Afridi, co-suspects in the case, were also set free after the prosecution failed to prove charges against them.

A case had been registered against the suspects at Baldia Town police station of Karachi.

The prosecution said that the suspects had been arrested on January 15, 2023; the day local bodies’ polls were held.

It further said that a ballot book had been recovered from the suspect. “Apart from that, he also subjected a presiding officer to torture,” the prosecutor said, and added that the suspects had rioted at a polling station in the Naval Colony UC 13.

The defence counsel, on the other hand, said that the suspect had showed a ballot book in support of his claim of rigging.
