The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday rejected the petition filed by a sub-engineer (mechanical) for his appointment on the basis of his name on the waiting list.

In its 14-page verdict, the LHC said that after the expiry of the term of the merit list, the candidate on the waiting list had no right to be appointed.

The high court thus threw out the writ petition filed by Habib Sultan and upheld the Public Service Commission’s decision.

Assistant Advocate General Muhammad Usman Khan appeared on behalf of the Punjab government.

The court said that under the Regulation 63, merit list was valid only for 12 months.

It noted that the term of the merit list had expired on February 25, 2026, while the petitioner approached the LHC on May 16, 2026.

The court said that there was no extension in the term of the merit list after a seat fell vacant, and the fact that Ikramullah had resigned from his post did not mean that the seat had fallen vacant.
