SUKKUR: As part of the Global Week of Action (12–18 October 2026), NARI Foundation, in collaboration with Aror University of Architecture, Design and Heritage, Awaz Foundation Pakistan (Awaz CDS), the Pakistan Development Alliance (PDA), and the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), organized a student-focused awareness and advocacy activity in Sukkur to highlight the urgent need for climate justice, social equality, and accelerated implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The activity brought together representatives of NARI Foundation and Aror University, engaging university students in discussions and advocacy around the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It emphasized the importance of translating international commitments into tangible results, particularly for vulnerable and marginalized communities disproportionately affected by poverty, inequality, and climate-related disasters.

Ms. Afshan Asghar, Chairperson of NARI Foundation, emphasized the importance of collective action, inclusive development, and meaningful participation in advancing the SDGs. She highlighted the need to ensure that women, young people, marginalized communities, and other vulnerable groups are not left behind in development policies and climate action initiatives.

Mr. Anwar Mahar, representing NARI Foundation, underscored the urgency of accountability for commitments made under the 2030 Agenda. He emphasized that governments and relevant institutions must accelerate progress on decent work, social protection, gender equality, poverty reduction, and climate resilience to ensure that sustainable development delivers meaningful improvements in people’s lives.

Representing Aror University, Dr. Qasim Sodhar and Mr. Rahib Ali Bhutto contributed to the collaborative initiative connecting higher education, youth engagement, sustainable development, and climate advocacy. The engagement highlighted the important role of universities and young people in promoting informed citizenship, environmental responsibility, and practical solutions to local and global challenges.

The campaign conveyed a clear message: “2030 Is Near — Turn Promises into Rights!” It also highlighted key climate justice demands, including “Climate Reparations, Not Climate Loans,” “Climate Justice Is Human Rights,” “Climate Finance, Not Climate Debt,” and “Those Least Responsible Suffer Most.”

These messages reflect growing concerns about the unequal burden of climate change, particularly on communities that have contributed least to global emissions but face disproportionate risks from floods, extreme weather, environmental degradation, and livelihood losses. In Sindh, the devastating floods of 2022 demonstrated the urgent need for stronger disaster preparedness, climate-resilient livelihoods, inclusive recovery, and equitable access to resources.

The activity also reaffirmed the importance of the SDGs as an interconnected framework for addressing poverty, hunger, education, health, gender equality, decent work, reduced inequalities, and climate action. With the 2030 deadline approaching, stakeholders must move beyond commitments and strengthen implementation, transparency, and accountability.

The participating organizations called for increased investment in climate resilience, accessible social protection, decent employment, equitable climate finance, and policies that prioritize the needs and rights of climate-vulnerable populations.

The initiative concluded with a shared call for governments, development institutions, universities, civil society organizations, and communities to work collectively towards a fairer, more inclusive, and climate-resilient future.
