The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has made the process of direct recruitment of inspectors in the federal police subject to the final verdict in a pending case and issued notices to relevant officials, seeking their responses.
Justice Ayaz Shaukat issued the order while hearing a petition filed by 39 sub-inspectors challenging the Ministry of Interior’s notification and an advertisement issued by the Public Service Commission for direct recruitment to the rank of inspector.
The court issued notices to the Interior Secretary, Islamabad Inspector General of Police, Additional IG, Chief Commissioner, Deputy Secretary (Interior) and the Public Service Commission, seeking their responses.
Notices were also issued to the Attorney General and the Advocate General of Islamabad to assist the court on legal matters.
The petitioners’ counsel argued that direct recruitment to the rank of inspector was contrary to the Police Order, contending that the law did not provide for appointments through this process.
They further argued that continuing the recruitment process could lead to appointments in violation of legal procedures.
The court has scheduled the next hearing of the petition for October 28.
