Giving an important decision in the case of a nine-year-old girl, who had lost her both hands after she received an electric shock while allegedly trying to steal electricity in Charsadda, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday ordered the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) to bear the expenses of her treatment.
IHC judge Justice Muhamad Azam Khan rejected the petition filed by the PESCO, and ordered it to get Lubaba’s, the child, complete medical examination from the Armed Forces Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, Rawalpindi and bear all expenses of her treatment.
The judge said that if the girl could not be provided artificial limbs in Pakistan, PESCO would be responsible to take her abroad for her rehabilitation.
The judge noted that the job of power distribution companies was not only to ensure uninterrupted power supply, but to also make sure that people’s lives remained safe.
Lubaba had been burnt after a transmission line of 11 KV fell on her in Pir Qila area of Charsadda in July, 2021.
Following the incident, both hands of the child were amputated.
PESCO took the stance that the incident did not take place due to the falling of a transmission line, but due to an attempt to steal electricity.
