An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Saturday disposed of the petition, filed by human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha, seeking deletion of terrorism-related sections from the case registered against them for removing barriers.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, in his remarks, said that he could not hear the petition at this point in time. “I cannot review my decision since I am not authorized to do so,” he added.
Advocate Zainab Janjua and Advocate Aimal Khan, counsels for the couple, walked out of the courtroom and boycotted the proceedings.
Dr. Shireen Mazari, Imaan’s mother, also appeared in the court.
Advocate Zainab told the court that the Bar President Naeem Ali Gujjar was sick, and her senior Advocate Riasat Ali Azad was at the hospital to look after him.
She informed that as per the jail officials report, Islamabad Police were not providing security to Imaan and Hadi so that they could be escorted to the court.
She said that while on one hand, the state said that the prosecution’s witnesses should record their statements today, on the other, the same state was not providing security to the couple.
Advocate Zainab said that Imaan and Hadi had been kept deprived of the right to a fair trial.
