PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march schedule has been revised again, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announcing that the march will move forward from Swabi Interchange on October 14.

According to the schedule shared by the chief minister, PTI workers and leaders from across Pakistan will gather at Swabi Interchange on October 11, while participants from different divisions of KP will arrive on October 13 and 14.

As the march which commenced on October 4 enters its seventh day, parliamentarians and party office-bearers have been directed to make arrangements for the arrival of workers in Swabi.

Workers to arrive in phases

According to Afridi, workers from Peshawar, Malakand and Kohat divisions, including Karak, will reach Swabi on October 13.

Participants from Hazara, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan divisions are scheduled to arrive on October 14.

The PTI leadership will announce the next course of action for the long march from Swabi, with the onward movement from Swabi Interchange also scheduled for October 14.

Long march reaches seventh day

Separately, the PTI long march entered its seventh day on Saturday, with the convoy scheduled to reach Mardan after passing through Charsadda.

According to a party spokesperson, the march reached Charsadda from Peshawar on Friday night. The participants are expected to pass through different areas of Charsadda before reaching Mardan, where they will stay for the night.

Afridi will lead the march, the spokesperson said.

The long march began in Lakki Marwat on October 4 and has so far passed through Karak, Kohat, Khyber and Peshawar, according to the party.

The spokesperson said the march would head towards Swabi on October 11 as part of the revised schedule.

KP governor challenges PTI to cross Swabi

Meanwhile, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has criticised the PTI long march, describing it as a “circus” and challenging its participants to move through Swabi.

Speaking at a press conference at Governor House on Friday, Kundi said PTI workers appeared reluctant to advance through Swabi, claiming that “their hearts start pounding when they even turn towards Swabi”.

The governor also criticised Chief Minister Sohail Afridi over his handling of provincial affairs, urging him to focus on governance and the security situation instead of leading the long march.

Kundi said he would respond if protesters attempted to surround Governor House. He also questioned the provincial government’s approach to tackling terrorism, alleging that the chief minister had no clear plan to address the issue.

Governor defends security meeting

Kundi also defended his meeting with the provincial chief secretary and inspector general of police, which Afridi had described as unconstitutional.

The governor said law and order required attention and that security concerns could not be ignored while the chief minister was occupied with the march. He also highlighted what he described as a shortage of resources for the provincial police.

Kundi said the PTI did not want to discuss terrorism, adding that the issue nevertheless needed to be addressed. He vowed to continue holding meetings on security matters.

The governor further criticised the provincial government’s performance, referring to governance challenges and strikes in the public sector. He urged Afridi to prioritise the province’s administrative and security needs.
