Security forces killed nine militants, including four key commanders, during intelligence-based operations against militants, also dubbed as Fitna al-Khwarij, in North Waziristan, according to state media on Thursday.
The operations were carried out in the Palangzai, Nadeem Kot and Kot Khizri areas of the district. Several militant hideouts were destroyed, while a large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the militants killed during the operations.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately praised the security forces for the successful operations.
In a statement, President Zardari said the elimination of nine militants, including four key commanders, demonstrated the professional capabilities and bravery of the security forces. He said every conspiracy by the “foreign patrons” of militants and their local facilitators would be thwarted.
The president said operations against Fitna al-Khwarij under the Azm-i-Istehkam initiative would continue until terrorism was eliminated from the country.
PM Shehbaz also commended the officers and personnel involved in the operations, saying their success reflected Pakistan’s “unwavering resolve” to completely eradicate terrorism.
He praised the security forces for their services and sacrifices in the fight against militancy and efforts to establish lasting peace, while reiterating the government’s determination to foil attempts to create unrest and undermine peace and stability in the country.
